7 to 14 Days for a Sample. We Mean It. Come See the Process During the Wenzhou Expo.

“We can have a sample ready in two weeks.” You’ve probably heard this from half the factories you’ve talked to. You’ve probably also had the experience of waiting six weeks for a sample that arrived with the wrong color and the wrong temple length.

Fast sampling is one of the most overused claims in the eyewear manufacturing industry. It’s also one of the most consequential. Your ability to launch new styles, respond to market trends, and test new designs before committing to bulk production depends directly on how quickly your supplier can turn around a physical sample.

Here is exactly how our seven-to-fourteen-day sample process works — and why it actually delivers in that timeframe rather than using it as a marketing phrase.

The Bottleneck in Most Factories Is Prototyping

Most eyewear factories in China outsource their prototyping work. When you order a sample for a new design, the factory sends the CAD files or technical drawings to a third-party prototyping service, waits for that service to complete the work, receives the prototype, reviews it, possibly sends it back for corrections, and then delivers it to you.

Each handoff in that chain adds time and introduces the possibility of miscommunication. The result is that a “two-week” sample often takes four to six weeks in practice, and when it arrives, minor errors that could have been caught and fixed in a single conversation take another round-trip to correct.

We invested in in-house 3D printing specifically to eliminate that bottleneck. When you order a sample from us, the design goes directly to our prototyping team, which operates within the same facility as production. Questions that would require email exchanges with an external vendor get answered in a five-minute conversation across the floor.

The Process, Step by Step

Day 1-2: Design confirmation. If you’re ordering a sample based on an existing design — your own drawings, a reference sample, or a photo — this stage involves confirming all the specifications: dimensions, material, color, surface finish, hinge type, lens size and shape, bridge design, temple length. If there are ambiguities, we resolve them here rather than discovering them after the prototype is done.

Day 2-5: CAD modeling. Our engineering team builds the 3D model based on confirmed specs. For styles that use existing molds — which covers the majority of standard frame shapes — this stage is significantly shorter because the base geometry already exists and we’re working from modifications rather than from scratch.

Day 4-8: 3D printing and initial review. The prototype is printed in-house. Our team reviews it against the specs and, if needed, makes adjustments before it goes to you. Minor dimension corrections happen here, not after you’ve received and returned the sample.

Day 7-14: Physical sample delivery. The finished prototype is shipped to you. For international buyers at the expo, we can often coordinate delivery to your hotel or have the sample ready for pickup at the factory by the end of your Wenzhou stay.

What About Existing Molds?

For buyers who are interested in styles that use existing production molds — meaning shapes already in our catalog that don’t require new tooling — the timeline is even shorter. We can have a physical sample ready in three to seven days for a color or specification variation on an existing style.

This matters more than most buyers realize. The majority of popular frame shapes in the current market — classic aviators, standard cat-eyes, rectangular optical frames, round retro shapes — are produced using public-domain molds that multiple factories share. There is no tooling cost, no new design work, and no waiting for a mold to be built. You’re essentially ordering a color run on an established shape.

If you’ve seen a style at the expo or at another supplier that you want us to reproduce, the first question we’ll ask is whether it uses a mold we already have. In most cases, the answer is yes.

Come See the Prototyping Area During Your Visit

We’re not asking you to take our word for any of this. During factory visits in expo week, we include the prototyping area as part of the standard tour. You’ll see the equipment, meet the team, and can ask specific questions about the process and timeline for whatever you’re interested in producing.

If you have a design or reference you want to discuss, bring it. We’ll give you a realistic assessment of the timeline and cost during the visit, not in a follow-up email two weeks later.

Factory visits are available any time , Contact us to schedule.

A Note on Sample Fees

Our sample fees are refundable. When you place a bulk production order, the sample fee is credited against that order. You are not paying us to evaluate whether we’re a suitable supplier — you’re making a deposit against the production order you intend to place.

This policy reflects how we think about the relationship. We want you to order samples with confidence, see the quality, make your decision, and then move forward. We’re not interested in charging you for the privilege of evaluating us.

FAQ

What file formats do you accept for custom designs?

We work with CAD files (STEP, IGES, SolidWorks formats), technical drawings (PDF or DXF), or physical reference samples. If you only have a photo or sketch, our engineering team can work from that as a starting point — we’ll confirm dimensions with you during the design stage.

Are revisions included in the sample fee?

Yes. The sample fee covers the prototyping process including reasonable revisions. If you receive the sample and want changes to dimensions, finish, or minor design elements, we’ll make those corrections without additional charge.

Can I get a sample before the expo and review it before arriving in Wenzhou?

Yes. If you contact us before expo week and start the sampling process early, you can have a sample in hand before you arrive. This is actually the most efficient approach — you arrive in Wenzhou with a clear picture of our quality and can focus the factory visit on pricing and order details rather than starting from the evaluation stage.
